The Universities Carlos III de Madrid and Universidad de Sevilla offer the following free online courses as part of the European Project  ASSETs+,

ü   Cybersecurity Basics

ü  Technical Foundations of Cybersecurity

ü  Advanced Cybersecurity

All courses are taught in English and have an assessment. Upon completion, you will get an achievement certificate.

 

CYBERSECURITY BASICS (6h)

Goals

·         to be able to distinguish the various cybersecurity actors, as well as the main existing threats within the defense framework

·         to be able to handle basic concepts of network security, such as understanding the operation of the TCP/IP protocol stack and its main security vulnerabilities

·         to understand the importance of using secure passwords and defensive measures oriented to the workplace (mainly backups, encryption and password management, and email processing).

Class 01:  Introduction to cybersecurity: the need for cybersecurity -Main threats (interception, modification...) and Malware types in the defense sector

Class 02: Network security basics: TCP/IP stack, MAC address, IP address, DNS

Class 03: Good Practices and Main countermeasures: Encryption and secure passwords, the need of antivirus/Endpoint security, the importance of backups

Assessment

Attendance to at least two classes is required. An online test will be held at the end of class 03. Attendance and test results will determine the score in the achievement certificate.

TECHNICAL FOUNDATIONS OF CYBERSECURITY  (1ECTS)

Goals

·         to be able to evaluate the scope of application and the limitations of the main protection measures for data stored and in transit.

·         understand the operation of an access control system and a public key infrastructure

·         to know the fundamentals of network protection, the different existing techniques and know when to apply them.

Class 01:  Data Protection I (Cryptography basics, Public Key Infrastructure, Access control, Providing integrity)

Class 02: Data Protection II (Cryptography basics, Public Key Infrastructure, Access control, Providing integrity)

Class 03: Network protection Basics: Firewalls, DMZ, Subnet protection

Class 04: Network Protection Tools (Secure Networking/auditing, IDS/IPS, …)

ADVANCED CYBERSECURITY (1ECTS)

Goals

·         to be able to assess the scope of application and limitations of advanced cryptographic techniques and advanced network protection mechanisms (N7 firewall, Honeypots...).

·         understand the main techniques used in pentesting and the existing mechanisms for sharing threat information.

·         To be acquainted with the main national and international regulations that regulate cybersecurity.
